That’s why we’re excited to announce that you’ll soon have even more ways to reach shoppers in Europe with the arrival of SEPA Direct Debit.

What Is SEPA Direct Debit?

SEPA (Single Euro Payments Area) Direct Debit is a popular European payment method that makes cross-border shopping easy. SEPA Direct Debit payments allow customers to make cashless payments in euros across country borders.

Starting in July, all BlueSnap merchants will be able to offer shoppers in 21 countries the option of paying with SEPA Direct Debit. SEPA is preferred by 45% of shoppers in Europe and is most heavily used by shoppers in Germany, France, Spain, the Netherlands, and Italy. With 500 million potential users (2x the number of European credit cards currently in use), the addition of SEPA Direct Debit payments to your payment options will increase sales and boost conversion rates.

SEPA is one of many European payment methods supported by BlueSnap—our offerings include iDeal, Sofort, and GiroPay, as well as WebMoney, bank transfers, and digital wallets. Your customers will have access to whatever payment method they prefer. (In Germany, for example, 40% of consumers prefer to pay with Sofort or Giropay instead of credit cards.)

SEPA Setup

All it takes to enable SEPA is a few easy steps, and you’ll have:

• The ability to integrate the SEPA payment option with the API or hosted checkout pages.
• SEPA bank accounts in each country (you don’t have to open your own), with failover in major markets.
• Reporting and reconciliation through the BlueSnap portal.

SEPA is also available as a payout option. Payments in euros to accounts domiciled in the eurozone can be made via SEPA Credit Transfer.
